2012 IDP Profiles: Linebackers

In individual defensive players (IDP) fantasy football, you will find three basic sections that will fill up your roster, and they are defensive lineman, linebackers and defensive backs.  Of the three main areas that are included for IDP fantasy football it is the linebackers that are the most important. Of all the linebackers, it is the middle linebackers and  inside linebackers (3-4 defense) that tend to hold the most fantasy value.

This is why San Francisco 49ers inside linebacker Patrick Willis has been regarded as the top IDP defensive player to select throughout his career. Once again, Willis should be a tackling machine for the 49ers as he can cover more ground on the field than his teammates. The ability to consistently tackle players in the open field on your own is vital to being an IDP stud as solo tackles tend to mean a lot for IDP players. Some leagues focus more on the big plays like sacks and interceptions.

In those leagues, a player like Willis would lose value, but he is still a decent bet to force fumbles, score touchdowns, make interceptions and sack the quarterback. Since there are many different IDP leagues you can play in it is best to know if you need to select general linebackers, or if they are broken down by the position they play.
