IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: One of the better pass rushers in the game, Brian Orakpo has suffered from playing on bad teams with poor offenses in his career. With Robert Griffin III in town it should only be a matter of time before this team puts up the type of offensive fire power that allows Orakpo to put up better sack numbers.
For now, he’s a reserve option in big-play leagues, but he should have opportunities to make plays against a pass heavy division with Tony Romo, Eli Manning and Michael Vick, even if the Redskins struggle again.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
While Brian Orakpo is pissed at ESPN for leaving him off the top ten pass rushers in the NFL, we still love him over at fantasy-info.com. Orakpo fell back from his eleven sacks in his rookie season but hamstring and Achilles problems towards the end of the season hurt his odds of reaching over double digit sacks once again.
It also doesn’t help matters when you figure the Redskins are one of the five worst teams in football and falling behind in games doesn’t make things easy for pass rushers because the opposing team is running the football in the second half. While I do believe Orakpo will get over ten sacks this season he will have to wait for his team to play better around him before he’s ready for a 16 plus sacks season.
That will happen a few times in this young pass rushers career because he is one of the top ten and eventually will be a top five in my mind, when his team is better. For now, Orakpo is a worthy addition in big play leagues, and should be solid in the first part of the season, when all teams believe they have a chance and his fellow teammates are hopefully at their healthiest.
I do like that the Redskins are likely to get former 49ers nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin in free agency as he would greatly help them against the run, but if John Beck can’t make the offense go, this team will fall behind, early against playoff caliber teams. Unfortunately, the Redskins division is filled will playoff caliber teams, so temper any expectations on Orakpo breaking out for a huge sack season.

2010 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook
I was a big fan of Brian Orakpo coming into the 2009 NFL draft and was surprised when he fell out of the top ten picks. The Redskins got a great player in the early mid part of the first round with Orakpo, and he delivered eleven sacks in his rookie season.
This year Washington is using a three – four style defense and Orakpo is going to be a full time linebacker on the outside. Expect Orakpo to be a useful linebacker in Big Play IDP leagues as he doesn’t rack up a bunch of tackles but will make plays.
