Colin McCarthy | Tennessee Titans | LB
2013 Experience: 3rd Season
Fantasy Football Outlook: I had big hopes for McCarthy coming into last season after a big second half in his rookie season showed us he could be a LB1 producer. Even in the preseason, he looked good, specifically against the Seahawks.
Watching that game I was completely sold he was ready for a big year as he seemed to be all over the field snap after snap. You could tell this was an intelligent player, and while he might not have blazing speed, he clearly has the savvy of a player you want in the middle of your defense.
Then a week one high ankle sprain changed everything as McCarthy went from a possible top five option to one of the biggest busts in IDP leagues. It appeared my mid-season he was back after a good game against the Dolphins where he scored a touchdown made it seem like he was ready for a strong second half.
Unfortunately in his next game he suffered a concussion and since the Titans were out of playoff contention they held him out for the rest of the season.
As OTAs rolled around McCarthy said he was still coming back from the ankle injury he suffered week one so we need to keep an eye on him in the preseason.
My initial thoughts are if you can get McCarthy as a low-end LB2 he’s worth the gamble if he’s healthy when you draft because he has the ability to give use LB1 numbers. I’m not going to pay much attention to the upgrades at strong safety or Zach Brown, because I believe it’s McCarthy that will lead the show if he’s on the field.
This guy could be a terrific player for the Titans for years to come, or he could continue to find his way into the trainers’ table and never live up to the expectations many fantasy owners had for him heading into the 2012 season.

2012 IDP Fantasy Projection
Colin McCarthy broke out big at the end of last season after taking over for Barrett Ruud, because of injury. McCarthy will be the every down starting middle linebacker this year, and his dynasty prospects are solid.
Look to McCarthy as an instant LB1 option because of his situation and he can make big plays as we watched him force two fumbles and make an interception down the stretch.
