2012 Experience: 7th Season
IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: DeMeco Ryans was clearly slow to recover from his Achilles injury that cut his 2010 season short. As I expected, Brian Cushing was the linebacker to have in Houston, but that doesn’t mean Ryans is washed up.
Now in a better situation, Ryans will play the middle for Philadelphia, and Andy Reid has already noted he’s a three down player.
The Eagles sorely needed a presence inside last year; while Ryans isn’t really a thumper, he can attack down hill and that is essential in the running game. Especially for a scheme that relys on the linebackers (lineman mostly focus on rushing the passer) in this area more so than others.
Consider Ryans an upside LB3 on draft day, but unless we see him showing explosion off his first step in the preseason, he shouldn’t go higher on your board. Remember an Achilles injury can limit a player to never being as good as he once was, so unlike an ACL injury, it’s not guaranteed he will fully recover in year two.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
While I respect DeMeco Ryans game, I don’t believe this is the season you should target him for your IDP league, unless you can get him for depth on your roster. Ryans is recovering from surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon and has yet to run at full speed at the start of July. Look to fellow inside linebacker Brian Cushing as the option you will want this season.
Ryans should be back to full health by next season but this year he will probably limp his way to around 85 tackles, and you need more than that from a starting inside linebacker to regular play.

2010 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook
Much like Brian Cushing’s rookie season, DeMeco Ryans enjoyed a major rookie year back in 2006. Since that time Ryans has been a reliable IDP middle linebacker but hasn’t posted the numbers he did as a rookie. This season could be a bigger year as Cushing won’t be with the team for the first month and Ryans may reap the benefits.
