Mason Foster | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | LB
2013 Experience: 3rd Season
IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: Foster jumped out to a hot start that had many thinking he could be ready to join the fantasy elite at the linebacker position. Then he fell back and eventually lost his sub-package duties as it was rookie weak-side linebacker Lavonte David that became a fantasy stud instead.
A big blow to dynasty owners with Foster who drafted him a few years back hoping he would give them better production than a two down player.
Foster could win sub-package work back at some point but we need to be conservative about his prospects because of his inability to hold that role in his first two seasons. Up and down play has been a problem, so look to Foster as a backup on your team, but a player with potential to start weekly if his role changes.

Summer of 2012: Fantasy Projections
Things started out ok for Mason Foster in is rookie year, taking over early on in the middle. Then it went bad as he was a part of a Buccaneers defense that looked lost and lethargic down the stretch.
Despite the addition of Lavonte David on the weakside and Quincy Black working in the middle as of April, Foster is expected to remain in the middle this year. We will have to keep an eye on whether Foster remains on the field in sub packages, and if he can hold onto his starting job.
If we knew Foster was in a more stable situation, I wouldn’t mind ranking him as a legit LB3 but for now view him no higher than an LB4 on draft day.
Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
With Barrett Ruud gone to the Titans, the Buccaneers seem ready to use Mason Foster as the starting middle linebacker, as he’s atop the teams first depth chart in August. While the Buccaneers are destend to struggle against the run this season with so many young projected starters, Foster is a worthy value addition to your IDP squad.
If I knew that Foster could keep the starting job throughout the season, he would likely work his way into my top twenty linebackers this year, but because he has much to prove, I will keep him in the top 30 as a No.3 linebacker to target. Ruud had some big seasons at middle linebacker in this defense in years past so an opportunity for a big rookie season could be in the works. At worst case you can probably snag Foster up as your No.4 or 5 linebacker and he doesn’t workout. Best case he plays like a worthy No.2 linebacker for your squad.

If Barrett Ruud leaves via free agency, Mason Foster will be a linebacker that will be much talked about in the world of IDP fantasy football this summer. The Buccaneers are tentatively expected to use Foster as the potential replacement for Ruud at middle linebacker. This would obviously make Foster a draft-worthy linebacker in his rookie year, and might volt him up to being a starter in at least twelve team leagues, early in the season.
Come back to this player page late in July, after we know more about Ruud’s situation and during the preseason to get our thoughts on Fosters IDP fantasy value.
