2011 Experience: 4th Season
IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: I hit on a few of my breakout players last year but Rey Maualuga wasn’t one of them. Very disappointing season from Maualuga as he finally took over in the middle, but didn’t seem to make an impact in this defense all year.
He missed three games with an injury but it was his solo tackle numbers that concerned me most. Not one time did Maualuga have over six solo tackles in a game last year, and he only totaled 53 on the season.
Nothing more than a LB5, maybe he will get over 100 total tackles, but he’s a reserve at this point. Furthermore it’s still questionable if he will be a three down linebacker this year, keep an eye on his status.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
It looks like Rey Maualuga’s time has finally come to be the next middle linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals as they are set to let veteran Dhani Jones leave in free agency. This is great news for Maualuga’s IDP fantasy stock as he is likely to be a yearly option for over 100 tackles a season and should be viewed as a top 30 linebacker in tackle heavy leagues this summer.
The Bengals defense should be on the field often this year as it looks like Carson Palmer is moving on and they will likely have a rookie under center. The only thing that can stop Maualuga from being a weekly starter, is if he fall to an injury. Look to Maualuga as a great sleeper option for your squad this season and he is a nice No.3 linebacker to get in your leagues. If your a veteran IDP player, it is options like this one that is the reason why you can draft down for your IDP players because you can find breakout value, each season.

2010 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook
The Bengals have been trying Rey Maualuga out at middle linebacker and that is the position he will play in the future. Although it is unlikely he will play the middle this season he might at some point. For now, Maualuga isn’t worth having on your IDP fantasy squad unless your willing to hold him in hopes he will take the middle over some time this year.
