Team Defensive Style: 4-3

2011 Experience: 2nd Season

IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: For all the expectations Rolando McClain had coming into his rookie season, he played, well, like a rookie as he struggled at times to find himself on the field. Down the stretch McClain started to show us what he was all about as he posted 29 solo tackles in the final five games of the season, all while battling a foot injury.

While I do believe McClain will progress to over 100 tackles this season, I caution that you don’t look to him as a clear cut. No.2 linebacker for tackle heavy leagues. McClain’s success is based mainly on his talent, and that he’s a middle linebacker, and yet he hasn’t gotten it done of the field to be worthy of a top twenty ranking for IDP leagues. I’ve seen a few websites already that have him ranked as if he’s already had a solid year in the pro’s and that just isn’t reality. Look to McClain as an upside No.3 linebacker for your squad and you won’t be burned too bad if he should have another slow start to the season.

2010 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook

The Raiders finally had themselves what looks to be a solid draft, and they started out by selecting middle linebacker Rolando McClain from Alabama. McClain will be an instant starter for not only the Raiders and for IDP fantasy football owners as well. Some say McClain will be better than IDP stud Patrick Willis in a few years. While I disagree with those thoughts, McClain should be a darn good player and a very solid IDP fantasy option for years to come.
