Barry Cofield

Barry Cofield | Defensive Lineman

2011 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: One of my favorite, cheep, defensive tackles moved on from the New York Giants to make his big free agent splash with the Washington Redskins. Now Cofield will move into a 3-4 heavy scheme and that basically whips away any possibility of my viewing him as a draft-worthy option even if you play in leagues that require a defensive tackle position.

If Coefield can prove to be useful with the Redskins, let him prove it on the waiver wire first as the scheme he plays in isn’t always complimentary to players like Cofield. Personally I was hoping he would sign with the Rams as they play a defense similar to the one in New York.

2011 June

It’s been a good ride for Barry Cofield with the New York Giants, but it looks like his time in the big city is done. Cofield is set to hit the free agent market but he should be a starter for the money he’s looking to cash in on. The Rams would make sense as former Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spaguolo is their and they need a defensive tackle like Cofield.

We will have to wait and see where Cofield goes, but he should make for a fringe draft-able option for IDP leagues that require you start a defensive tackle position.
