2012 Experience: Rookie
Fantasy Football Outlook: My knee-jerk reaction about the pick of Bruce Irvin was that he was a good selection, but better at the end of the first round. Then again, as a 49ers fan I watched my team draft Aldon Smith as a top ten pick and look how he turned out in a sub package role.
Luckily for Irvin’s IDP value he has defensive line eligibility where as Smith was only a linebacker. Expect Irvin to make an impact in pass rush as a rookie, and eventually he should land a starting job. For now he’s only a matchup play as a DL4, but he could have a Carlos Dunlap type rookie season, and that makes him a decent backup on your team.
For rookie dynasty leagues Irvin is worth your consideration as a top five lineman at his position.
