IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: While Chris Long made strides in 2010, he finally produced a sack total we’ve been waiting for last year. The talent to be a DL1, Long will need to show us he can put up over 40 solo tackles, before I’m comfortable putting him in that category.
That could happen, but until we see an increase he’s better served as a DL2 with upside. If Robert Quinn has the breakout year I believe he’s ready for, Long will be helped as offensive coordinators will have to choose whom they will chip on a given play or weekly.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
It seems Chris Long has been a trendy defensive end to breakout for IDP leagues since the Rams drafted him back in 2008. While Long did post a respectable sack total for the first time in his career, his tackle numbers shrunk down to a career low at 30 overall. These numbers are in direct correlation to the overall play of the Rams as their offense kept them in games and while Long had more sacks because of it, he also had a reduction in his tackles.
Long just isn’t active enough against the running game to be a usable option most of the time in tackle heavy leagues, but he can make for a matchup play in big play leagues because the Rams are an aggressive defense off the edge.

2010 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook
It’s all about getting lots of opportunities to shine in fantasy football and that is what Chris Long will get this season. Finally, Long look ready to be the full time starting defensive end for the Rams as he should play every down. On the Rams’ defense Long will get lots of opportunities to make plays as they will be on the field a good amount of time this year.
Look for Long to flirt with 70 plus tackles, but he might not reach double digit sacks because the Rams will be play way behind in many games. Put it all together and Long should have a breakout season for IDP fantasy football owners.
