Corey Liuget | Defensive Lineman
2011 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: For some reason, Corey Liuget reminds me of Jay Ratliff of the Dallas Cowboys, and maybe that is what the Chargers saw in a lineman that weighs around 300 pounds. Liuget has a good burst of speed and is projected to be used much of the same way he was in college for passing downs as an inside pass rusher.
That’s probably the reason why I look to Liuget as a comparable player to Ratliff in that he has about the same body type, will play in a 3-4 scheme, and is quick enough to get to the quarterback. While Liuget is expected to play on the end, in non-predictable passing downs, he will need to prove that he’s not a liability on the field, for the Chargers to keep him playing most downs.
This is probably a key for Liuget to be a possible option in big play leagues as a possible defensive tackle start option, because he needs to acquire enough tackles to make him worth the gamble in his off weeks, where he fails to sack the quarterback. In the end, Liuget remains an interesting player to watch, but he’s probably best left on the waiver wire until we see more in the regular season.
