Courtney Upshaw | Baltimore Ravens | DE / LB
2012 Experience: Rookie
Fantasy Football Outlook: Courtney Upshaw didn’t figure to have much value this year, until Terrell Suggs injured his Achilles and may face a lost season. Upshaw is likely to move into Suggs old role giving him defensive end eligibility in many leagues.
Because of his opportunity, Upshaw could be the top lineman of the rookie class this year but his value when Suggs returns will be up in the air. Because of this uncertainty, I selected Andre Branch over Upshaw in my recent rookie taxi squad draft.
Keep an eye on how Upshaw is doing in training camp, and if he’s making an impact in preseason games. I figure he will play well, as he has great physical ability, and I found him to be a savvy player at Alabama. We could have a sleeper DL2 in Upshaw, but if you can snag him as a DL4 on draft day, that would be best. Just make sure he’s eligible for defensive line, if not I would pass on him.
