Dwight Freeney | Defensive End
2011 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: Dwight Freeney is a worthy lineman to have for at least big play leagues but his name makes him overrated each and every year. While Freeney will likely rackup over 10 sacks once again in 2011, he will probably fail to reach even 30 tackles. I’m not a fan of Freeney, and I will have him ranked lower than others (mainly for tackle heavy leagues) around the web because a good starting option needs to have at least 50 tackles on the season.
For where I’ve seen Freeney go over the years, you would think this guy totals around 70 tackles a season to go with this ten sacks and not 25 on the year. Don’t take Freeney as there are plenty of other 10 sack, low tackle lineman you can get cheaper like Carlos Dunlap or Derrick Morgan and at least those youngsters still has room to grow against the run to add more tackles.
It’s not that I believe Freeney is a horrible tackler, but more that the Tampa-2 defense lets their linebackers, secondary and defensive tackles worry more about the tackles, and they ask the ends to focus on the quarterback. Great for sacks and disruption in an NFL contest, but not for IDP purposes.

2010 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook
Dwight Freeney has been one of the best sack artists in the NFL, since he came into the league. That said his fantasy value is obviously best held in big play IDP fantasy football leagues because he’s never been great at racking up a decent tackle total.
