Marcell Dareus | Buffalo Bills | DL
2012 Experience: 2nd Season
IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: With Mario Williams and Mark Anderson in town the Bills are set to use a 4-3 base defense. This will keep Marcell Dareus playing at tackle most of the time, but it should increase his IDP potential as he was more effective at tackle last year.
Dareus should have a nice season and while he’s likely available as a DL4 at your draft I could see him playing as high as a low DL2 and a DT1 for sure. Having Williams around is going to make a big difference in this pass rush.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
No disrespect to Cam Newton but if I were a Panthers fan I would have been screaming for defensive lineman Marcell Dareus as the No.1 pick in the draft. Sure, the quarterback position is very important, but I don’t feel the Panthers have the right team around him to find success, and Dareus clearly would have provided them with a versatile talent on the front line of the defense.
The Bills are expected to keep using their multiple front (4-3, 3-4 mix) look on defense and Dareus is expected to play as an end when they lineup in 3-4 sets. I love the potential for Dareus, as he has experience playing all over the front line as an end, a tackle and can be a success in 1 and 2 gap assignments. Obviously, we will want to see Dareus in 1-gap assignments in contrast to 2-gap for IDP purposes, but Dareus has an opportunity to be a nice sleeper as a late round pick to waiver wire pickup.
Bottom line is that the Bills defense spends a good amount of time on the field, as opposing offenses like to challenge them with a heavy does of running the football. Nose tackle Kyle Williams has had a bunch of success in this defense, and while I’m not sure Dareus will be that good, he is an interesting defensive lineman for IDP purposes. Look to Dareus as an interesting dynasty hold in rookie drafts this year.
