Matt Shaughnessy | Oakland Raiders | DE
2012 Experience: 3rd Season
IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: Not exactly sure how Matt Shaughnessy will fit in with the Raiders move to a 3-4 scheme, but I don’t like it. This team’s personnel is better suited for a 4-3 defense and I have to believe the Raiders stubborn new coaching staff and management will have to see this as the season moves along and make the change back.
If that happens and Shaughnessy is starting at defensive end, he would transition to a DL3 play right away. If not, he’s best left on your bench and better yet, let someone else deal with this mess and move on to another option on draft day.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
Matt Shaughnessy continued to mature as the season progressed and as Pro Football Focus points out, he played in 49 percent of the defensive snaps in the first eleven games, and then jumped to 83 percent in the final six games. Coming into his third season in the league, Shaughnessy should clearly be a factor for the Raiders defense and has a possible bright future in the game of IDP fantasy football.
Because Shaughnessy proved to be successful on rushing downs, his IDP stock is going to move him up to at least a top 20 option for defensive lineman this season. It’s hard to believe a guy that had seven sacks and 56 tackles a year ago could be considered a sleeper but for many, it seems they still don’t know much about this young talent from Oakland.
You should be able to acquire Shaughnessy towards the end of your IDP draft, and I would advise you look to him as respectable depth to start the season, if not a cheep No.2 line starter to begin the season on your squad. At the end of the day, you need to have options you can trust in your starting lineup, and Shaughnessy will be a name whom we all will come to hear more of in the future.
