Mike Patterson | Philadelphia Eagles | Defensive Tackle

2011 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: For all the positives that have gone on for the Eagles this summer one glaring unfortunate accident happened the early portion of camp as defensive tackle Mike Patterson had a scary seizure in practice. Patterson looks to be getting better but while he seems to be in positive spirits about his recovery, it’s probably going to be awhile before we see him on the field, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s out of the year. Obviously, Patterson isn’t an option to draft this year in IDP leagues, and let’s just hope he can recover for a healthy life and possible football career in the future.

8/11 Update – Great news for Mike Patterson and the Eagles is that the big defensive tackle is healthy and actually played in the teams third preseason game. While IDP fantasy owners should look to Patterson as a late round flair at best, it’s good to know that his health has bounced back well enough to play already.

June 2011

While Mike Patterson has been a solid defensive tackle for IDP purposes in the past, he failed to get much done in the 2010 season. Really, when you get down to it Patterson has been very average two of the past three seasons since his big season in 2007 when he had 66 tackles and four sacks on the season.

If the Eagles acquire someone like Jason Babin in free agency, it could lead to Patterson snagging a couple extra sacks and easy tackles on the season as opposing lineman will have to worry about edge rushers on both sides with Trent Cole still in his prime. For now, Patterson is probably a little overrated because of his past, but he’s still a player who could bounce back for a solid season for leagues that require you to start tackles.

2010 Preview

Mike Patterson has been a reliable defensive tackle for IDP fantasy owners for a few seasons now. The Eagles have run the same defense for years and Patterson makes for a decent tackle heavy IDP defensive tackle once again in 2010. Don’t look to Patterson as the first tackle off the board at your IDP draft, but he can be a decent helper to your team.
