Shaun Ellis
Shaun Ellis | New England Patriots | Defensive End
Defensive Scheme: 3-4 Multiple Fronts
2011 Experience: 12th Season
IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: The Patriots picked up a rival on the defensive line as Shaun Ellis is now in New England. With the additions of Ellis and Albert Haynesworth to the front line, the Patriots could show more 4-3 fronts as they have the groupings to play both packages at any given time.
Look for Ellis to be a helper on this defense but he is at best a late round selection in IDP fantasy leagues. Ellis may receive better opportunities to sack the quarterback when the team moves to a 4-3 look, but he’s clearly not a double digit threat as he was in the earlier part of his career.

June 2011
It sounds like Shaun Ellis is tentatively expected to return with the Jets for at least one more season and that would be a good thing for the overall success of their team defense. As for Ellis’s IDP fantasy value he clearly took a dip in his tackle and sack numbers last year and now at age 34 it’s probably time to avoid drafting him. Ellis could help your squad if he hits the waiver wire, but I would look to younger options with more upside to put on your team in the final rounds on draft day.
2010 Preview
The Jets tried trading Shaun Ellis this offseason but found no takers, and I believe that was a good thing for them. Sometimes you just can’t get back the value that a player can give your team and Ellis is still a solid option for this defense. Expect Ellis to be a serviceable IDP defensive end this year as he’s been a reliable option for years.
