Fantasy Football Outlook: Welcome to the life of a kicker, make Pro Bowl in your time with a team but have too many average seasons and your job is on the line. The Dolphins seem to be looking to get younger in various spots of the team this 0ff-season and we could see them bring a young kicker in for competition.
It’s best to look to Carpenter as nothing more than a waiver wire pickup for a good matchup. We need to see the offense progress and give Carpenter more opportunities before he’s worth putting on a fantasy roster.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
Dan Carpenter has been a Pro Bowl caliber kicker over the past two seasons and last year he broke out in his deep ball opportunities with four made field goals of eight chances from 50 plus. This is the kind of progression I wanted to see from Carpenter as it shows his coaching staff is starting to have more faith in him that he can make the longer tries. Some many times a young kicker in the game has to earn the trust from his coaches before he actually gets those kicks and those points mean a lot when it comes to fantasy football production. Unless the Dolphins can upgrade from Chad Henne’s 2010 production, Carpenter won’t be more than a top twelve option at kicker, but he could be more if the Dolphins find more success on offense.

2010 Preview
Dan Carpenter had a somewhat quite fantasy season but was the alternate Pro Bowl kicker in Nate Kaeding’s absence. Look for the young kicker as a low end starter in deep fantasy leagues as the Dolphins should have a decent team again in 2010.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Dan Carpenter put together another solid NFL season in his second year as a pro. Converting 25 of his 28 field goal opportunities landed him in the Pro Bowl and got him a contract extension this offseason.
With good numbers and an improving offense, Carpenter should be a viable fantasy kicker for years to come.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: The Dolphins needed to do something at receiver this offseason and they did by landing star wide out Brandon Marshall via trade. With this addition, Carpenter’s fantasy value can only be improved as Marshall will help this offense move the football down the field.
Running back Ronnie Brown is also recovering nicely from his foot injury well so this is a good sign that the Dolphins will still be strong on the ground. Put those positives together with Carpenter’s solid play in his first two seasons and you have yourself a starting fantasy kicker.
Look for Carpenter as one of the later kickers to grab as a starting kicker on draft day.
