Neil Rackers | Houston Texans | K
2012 Experience: 13th season
Fantasy Football Outlook: While Neil Rackers was still effective as a place kicker last year, he struggled on kickoffs and that must have been the reason Houston decided to part ways. Rackers will be kicking for the Redskins on a one-year deal, and he may lose some long-distance opportunities to Graham Gano if they decide to carry two kickers.
If Gano is only used for kickoffs or cut all together the next area of concern for Rackers fantasy chances is if RGIII is ready to turn this offense into a consistent, high-scoring team? If not, Rackers will need to hope for the Redskins defense to have a big year, keeping game’s close, and allowing Rackers to nail field goals, to win games. At this time, Rackers is better left on the waiver wire, until we find out more about how this team will play, in-season.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
Heading into last season, we didn’t know officially if Neil Rackers or long time Texans place kicker Kris Brown would win the job, but Rackers won in the end. That proved to be a wise choice for the Texans, as Rackers was healthy and had an accuracy rating of 90 percent on his field goal attempts.Coming into 2011, Rackers is going to be a clear top five fantasy kicker because he still has a decent leg, plays on a high scoring team and the Texans play in a doom to help him remain accurate and get chances from 50 plus. Look to Rackers as a fine option for an every week option as your starting place kicker in ten team leagues.

Neil Rackers wasn’t brought back by his long time team the Arizona Cardinals but signed a two year deal with the Houston Texans. Now, Rackers and Kris Brown will compete for the Texans kicking job.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Neil Rackers had some health issues last season and missed two games because of it. With Kurt Warner at the helm, the Cardinals didn’t seem to use Rackers enough to make him close to a relevant fantasy option.
Upon the seasons end, Rackers moved on in free agency and signed a two year deal with the Texans.
2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Rackers should have the clear advantage over Kris Brown as the two veterans battle it out this summer. Brown missed way to many opportunities last year and especially in the clutch. Rackers may not be a great clutch kicker, but he is much better than the way Brown performed last season.
At the end of the day it’s hard for me to see the Texans going with Brown after he failed so bad in big kick opportunities. Those failed conversions cost the team an easy chance to make the playoffs for the first time.
If Rackers wins the job, he could be worth picking up on your fantasy football team this year as he’s in a big time offense and should get decent attempts throughout the season.
– Great Offense
– Plays In A Dome
– Decent Accuracy
– Doesn’t Have A Big Leg
– Hasn’t Won The Job Yet
