Fantasy Football Outlook: While Jake Locker will likely lose out to Matt Hasselbeck for the starting job, he should take over at some point this year. This could be because the Titans start out slow and insert Locker to see what he can bring in the future, or because Hasselbeck is an old quarterback and sustains an injury.
In Locker, the Titans offense showed a spark when he stepped in on three separate occasions last year. While he was productive, Locker still seems to need work to become a traditional pocket passer, but in the short run he can rely on his running ability, and outside the pocket passing skills to be a worthy addition as a fantasy backup.
August 4th Update - Locker is pressing Hasselbeck for the starters role and I now expect him to win the job out of camp. The future is now, and the Titans would be wise to use their talented young quarterback to begin the season, even if they have a tough schedule. In Locker, this offense has a mobile quarterback who can make things happen on the run and with his legs.
Locker will bring new elements to the offense and should help the vertical passing game as well as the running game. I like him as a top fifteen quarterback if he should win the job, especially if Kenny Britt can find the field by week one, even if it’s in a reduced role.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
I don’t believe Andrew Luck will fall out of favor as the expected first overall selection in the 2012 draft but Jake Locker is a good reminder of how fast perception can change. Locker was projected as a clear top five selection for the 2010 draft but decided to stay in college.
By staying in college for another season, Locker was thought to be a favorite to be the first overall pick coming into the 2011 season but a down year watch his stock fall, and he was drafted by the Titans with the eight overall pick. Sure, being selected eight overall is nothing to feel bad about, but it could have been worse.
In the end, Locker is the future for the Titans as Vince Young’s failure is complete after his continued problems caused the team to part ways. New Offensive Coordinator Chris Palmer is a long time quarterbacks’ coach, so I like the fact that Locker will have someone leading the ship that can bring him along.
Don’t look for Locker to win the job coming out of camps as the team will probably opt for a veteran to start for the first part of the season. I do believe we will see Locker move into the starting lineup by the fall as the Titans will probably be a losing team, in a rebuilding phase.
