Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections

Jimmy Clausen struggled to say the least in his first year as the Panthers lost nine of the ten games he started and Clausen was sacked 33 times. At one point, his own teammate Steve Smith even called him out for poor relations with his teammates.

Who knows if Clausen was truly having trouble leading his teammates on offense, but the fact that the Panthers drafted Cam Newton with the first overall pick, doesn’t say much about the former Notre Dame standout. Maybe Clausen has some maturing to do but many young men at his age are still growing, and it’s far too early to say he’s a bust.

It may be fair to say that Clausen will eventually need a change of scenery as the Panthers will be moving forward with Newton, even if Clausen finds a way to win the job this preseason. No matter who starts in Carolina this season, it’s a clear situation to avoid for fantasy football.

2010 Preview

Jimmy Clausen had to wait until the second round before he was drafted but by the second game of his pro career the team was his. Now the starter, Clausen will embark on a projected long rookie season as he has much growing up to do as all starting rookie quarterbacks.

2010 Fantasy Football Outlook

College / 2010 NFL Draft: Jimmy Clausen made the fighting Irish of Note Dame the best they could be with his spirited play and toughness. In the end, Clausen and Golden Tate could help Charlie Weis keep his job as they failed to live up to the lofty expectations their fan base has.

At the draft Clausen had to wait until the middle of the second round to hear his name called. This was a shocker as it looked like Clausen could have been a top five pick before the Redskins traded for Donovan McNabb.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Clausen in all likely hood will begin his career with the Panthers as the teams back up behind Matt Moore. Coach John Fox is extremely loyal to his veterans and Moore has earned the right to be the teams’ starter.

This will probably be a good thing for Clausen as any young quarterback can use extra time to ease into playing at the pro level. If Moore should struggle or fall to injury, Clausen would probably find the field in his rookie season. Other than that he will have to wait till next year for his opportunity.

– Great Physical Tools

– Plays Well In Pain

– Good Offense Around Him

– Should Backup Matt Moore

– Rookie
