2011 Fantasy Football Outlook: Matt Leinart has put together a disappointing pro career after so much success with USC and top ten contract seem to have spoiled a projected quality talent. The shock of last August had the Cardinals breaking ties with Leinart and without a respectable backup before the season began as Leinart caught on with the Texans.
Now a free agent, Leinart is at best a backup that will need to prove himself all over again just to stay in the NFL.

August 2010: Cardinals release Leinart, Texans pick him up
In perhaps the biggest news of the preseason, the Cardinals have not only benched but cut Matt Leinart from the team. Leinart then signed with the Texans to be Matt Schaub’s backup. Being a backup will probably be Leinart’s career as he’s lost a great opportunity with the Cardinals.

2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Matt Leinart did see the field at times last year as he would fill in for Kurt Warner. For the season Leinart spent most of his time of the bench once again as Warner played out his final year in the NFL.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: With Warner’s retirement, Leinart became the favorite to be the Cardinals starting quarterback of the future. To start OTA’s Leinart wasn’t having a good start but by early June, he looked like a different quarterback. I expected Leinart to go through some of the learning curve he never received because of missing out on playing time the past few seasons.
Still, he should play well enough to help the Cardinals fight it out with the up and coming 49ers for the Western Division Title. Leinert thankfully has the third easiest schedule to pass against this year and that should only help him.
This quarterback may get looked over on draft day but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s on various fantasy rosters at some point in 2010.
