Fantasy Football Outlook: Michael Vick’s situation reminds me a lot of Alex Smith when Jim Harbaugh came to town in 2011. The 49ers were coming off a disappointing season, but they were “stuck” at the quarterback situation, and decided it was best to keep their veteran while developing a draft pick.
While Nick Foles is still on the team, Vick will likely have the inside track to start this year as Matt Barkley continues to rehab his shoulder injury from last year. It will be interesting to watch the Eagles offense and I actually like Vick as an interesting boom or bust pickup late in your draft or off the waiver wire.
The Eagles offense will be a situation to watch carefully in the preseason, to see how they look, but we should expect them to be a run heavy team. What I do think Coach Kelly will do is allow Vick to do what he does best, run the football and not force him to try to be what he isn’t, a pocket passing quarterback.

Summer of 2012: Fantasy Projections
It’s a good thing that Michael Vick still has excellent speed, because if you look back over his career, he’s clearly not a worthy starting fantasy quarterback based on his passing yards and touchdown total, yearly. Only twice in Vick’s career has he reached 20 touchdowns or more in a season.
Still, Vick is one of the elite running quarterbacks in the game, and because he’s quick to leave the pocket (not as bad as his time in Atlanta, but still not great) he will continue to rackup over 500 yards this year, even if he misses his normal three or four games. Health has been a big problem for Vick in his career and with so many quality quarterbacks to choose from on draft day, I probably won’t have him higher than the seventh quarterback to select.
ADP rankings have Vick landing in as the 6th quarterback off the board, around the fourth round, and that is about as high as he should go.
While Vick’s draft stock is down from a year ago, it’s not all bad because he had upside from the production we saw a year ago. Top play maker DeSean Jackson clearly wasn’t happy about his contract, and it affected his play on the field, that shouldn’t be a problem this year, as he finally landed his big pay day. My main concern is the loss of right tackle Jason Peters, who was lost to an Achilles injury at the start of April.
Since Vick is a left handed thrower, Peters protected his blind side and while the Eagles have a respectable replacement, Vick will need to up his game to avoid big hits. If you’re willing to live with the ups and downs, Vick brings, he’s may be a better draft selection (on the upside of course) than Peyton Manning or Eli Manning, but personally, I would take the steady pocket passers over him.
Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
While Michael Vick picked up another quality veteran receiver in Steve Smith, the Eagles star quarterback may have to wait until as late as October to get his full compliment of receivers healthy and on the field.
Smith is likely to start the season on the PUP list and would miss the first six games of the year, and we all know what’s been going on with Jeremy Maclin this past month. Just watching the Eagles second preseason game, I’m starting to wonder if this team is going to take some time to gel and find their groove together.
While much has been made of Vick vs Aaron Rodgers, I was pro Rodgers in the debt throughout the off-season, and I’m even more so now. Vick should still go as one of the top two fantasy quarterbacks this summer in all drafts, but don’t be surprised if quarterbacks like Philip Rivers, Tom Brady and even Tony Romo get off to better starts. Vick will still have great numbers by the end of the season, but this could be a bumpy start for the Eagles on both sides of the football.

June 2011
Not only did Michael Vick find a starting job once again in the NFL, but he finally became the complete quarterback we all hoped to see in his time with the Falcons. With a creative offense and a great supporting cast, Vick has the kind of talent around him to help him remain as one of the top quarterbacks for fantasy football in the coming years.
It’s hard to argue with those that want to build a case for Vick as the top quarterback to select in standard fantasy football drafts this season, because of the stats he can give you as a passer and a runner. If you should choose to select Vick with your first pick, the only issue you may run into is his health as Vick missed time even last year, and was clearly beat up by seasons end.
Don’t be surprised if defenses approach the Eagles much like the end of last season, as they decided to attack Vick and knock him around. Teams realized that if they sit back and allow Vick to pick them apart, they will find themselves on the losing side of the contest. In respect Philadelphia’s potent offense, it only makes sense that teams will continue to come after Vick as one has to feel that this team is going to put up points one way or another.
Another problem for Vick is his inconsistent touchdown scores as a runner as he’s failed to score more than three touchdowns in a season four of his seven years with the starting job. A return to his nine rushing scores from a year ago isn’t likely and would hurt his overall numbers. In the end, Vick will be a fantasy stud when on the field and can give you a few ridiculous performances.
2010 Preview
Michael Vick has taken the bull by the horns as he is the Eagles starting quarterback. With great play and a new found hope, the Eagles are now in contention for a playoff spot when preseason projections had them as a rebuilding team. Look for Vick to have a great year in most fantasy leagues.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Michael Vick received another opportunity to play in the NFL after he was released from jail and signed with the Eagles. For the season Vick was understandably a little out of playing shape and was used sparingly in different situations.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: It looked as if the Rams or Bills might make a play to trade for Vick this offseason but in the end he stayed with the Eagles. Vick reportedly has his speed back and is looking good in OTA’s so far. Still, this is expected to be Kevin Kolb’s show and Vick will probably be used like he was a season ago.
Some day Vick may get a starting job in the NFL again, but it doesn’t look like it will be in 2010.
