Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
Because Mike Singletary is an offensive genius, he thought it would be a good idea to bail on Shaun Hill and go with Alex Smith in San Francisco. Why the Lions even bothered to acquire Hill is a mystery as he’s only responsible for helping Singletary land the multi–year contract as a head coach for the 49ers, but what the heck they decided to give the veteran a shot.
What do you know, Hill received another opportunity to start as Matthew Stafford had another shoulder injury, and Hill responded by making the Lions one of the better scoring offenses in the NFC for the first half of the season. Maybe Hill doesn’t have a laser arm, but he gets the job done and keeps Calvin Johnson as one of the top receivers for fantasy football.
Unfortunately, for Hill, Stafford is a much more talented quarterback than Alex Smith so it actually makes sense for the Lions to have Hill as the secondary option on this team. That said, Stafford’s shoulder will be a major concern (even though he’s “healthy” right now) throughout the 2011 season and Hill could find extended time on the field if there is a set back.
Expect Hill to keep this offense moving and putting points on the board if he should find his way back into the start lineup. This guy just continues to help his teams find success, even if genius coaches let him go and then lose the job, he helped secure.
