Fantasy Football Outlook: It’s curtains’ time for LeGarrette Blount as a starter in Tampa Bay as Doug Martin should run away with the starting job, in training camp. The Buccaneers coaching staff has enough film to know Blount struggles in third down, pass protection situations and he’s a chronic fumbler.

Those things won’t be tolerated, and Martin is good at just about everything you would ever want in a tailback except maybe elite open field speed.

Everything is designed for a run first approach but Blount could easily be nothing more than used for the occasional breather for Martin. Even that isn’t a sure thing as the Buccaneers drafted Utah State’s Michael Smith in the later rounds, a running back that various draftniks loved.

Unless you’re in deep leagues, or you have Martin early in your draft (should be a top fifteen tailback) it;s best you leave Blount as an after thought on draft day.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections

It’s been an interesting ride for LeGarrette Blount since he punched a Boise State player while playing for the Oregon Ducks. Blount was basically kicked of the team, for his actions, and found himself as an undrafted rookie that was ultimately let go by the Titans. Since the Buccaneers were desperate to find extra running backs, the gave Blount an opportunity and the power back made the most of it as he became not just a starter, but basically a feature back down the stretch.

Blount has the size and strength to be a feature runner and at one time, draft experts had Blount as a possible second round selection, before his problems happened in college. Who knows what Blount’s future will be off the field, in the future, but as for now he is the Buccaneers starting tail back and a worth No.2 runner for fantasy football owners.

The Buccaneers have a talented young offense to go with a respectable defense, and that means Blount will have a chance to be a consistent producer like he was a season ago. Blount’s value will take a hit in PPR leagues as his five receptions from a year ago, let us know Tampa Bay won’t use him much on passing downs.
