2011 Fantasy Football Outlook: After his expected release from the Cowboys, Marion Barber joined his fellow teammate Roy Williams by signing with the Chicago Bears. In acquiring Barber, the Bears clearly tipped their hand that they don’t believe Chester Taylor will bounce back from this poor play last season. Look for Barber to help Matt Forte as the teams backup, and could be an interesting waiver wire pick if Forte should go down for a stretch in the second half of the season. Until then, Barber isn’t worth drafting or owning in fantasy leagues.

Marion Barber has failed to live up to the hype that had him as a one time top five fantasy back to select a few years ago. Last season was by far the worst year of Barber’s career as he only averaged 3.3 yards per carry and clearly doesn’t seem to have the power he once had in the early part of his career. As it stands, Barber is the likely running back to be released now that the team has added DeMarco Murray in the draft through some are saying Tashard Choice may go instead.
In the end, money and production talk and Choice is a better fit for the Cowboys in both of those areas, so expect Barber to be on the move this summer. No matter where Barber ends up, it’s hard for me to see him as a draft worthy option in any style of play for fantasy football. He will need injuries to occur in front of him, but if he has fresh legs in the second half of the season, he might give you something down the stretch.

2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Marion Barber had another disappointing season for fantasy owners as he suffered a torn left quad muscle in the second week of the season. While the Cowboys’ trainers finally revealed it was a torn quad, throughout the season it was reported as a strain.
This just goes to show fantasy owners that if a player isn’t bouncing back from an injury, there is probably more going on than what the team is reporting. In the end, Barber failed to reach 1,000 yards rushing once again and was a shell of his former self by the time the playoffs began.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: This offseason Barber looks like a different player as he has all but lost his starting job to Felix Jones. This offseason Barber dropped ten pounds and looks faster in practices. Expect Barber to remain the teams No.2 runner as I feel this is a better fit for him.
His best success came when Julius Jones was the teams’ starter, and he would come in when the defense was a little roughed up. Then Barber would use his physical abilities to beat down opponents and score a bunch of touchdowns.
Barber may not play as good in this role as he did years ago, but he is worth having on your fantasy roster. Early in the season he is probably a decent starter as a flex option against good matchups. Other than that he needs to prove he can stay healthy and be consistent in his new role on the team.
