Fantasy Football Outlook: A lingering hamstring problem held Shane Vereen back from much activity in the offense. With BenJarvius Green-Ellis gone, Vereen should have a chance to win the starting job, but that role will likely go to last years backup Stevan Ridley.
It’s not that Vereen isn’t talented enough to win the job — was drafted ahead of Ridley last year — but more because Ridley was a solid player in all phases, except for holding onto the football. This one issue, has killed many a running backs chances to shine on Sundays, but I expect Ridley to make the correction this offseason.
Look for Vereen to play second fiddle (maybe third because of Danny Woodhead) in the Patriots running back committee, but if Ridley should continue to fumble or fall to injury, Vereen may be an instant flex play start.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
It looks like Shane Vereen will have a slow start to his rookie season as a hamstring injury is likely to land him on injured reserve this season. While I still think Vereen will make the 53 man roster, it could be a possibility that Vereen will not play much early on, as fellow rookie Stevan Ridley is making his presence felt in camp. Don’t look to Vereen as anything but a speculative selection in dynasty leagues.

June 2011
Just when you thought the Patriots have a couple running backs with defined rolls, they go and draft to more talented runners in the draft. While we can get a read on the strengths of each running back in the Patriots four headed monster, it is Shane Vereen that some feel has the best overall skills.
Don’t expect big things from Vereen (or any Patriots running back) for the 2011 season, as this group will be a committee that will need injuries before we start to see, start worthy value for fantasy football. BenJarvus Green-Ellis would be the one running back at this time I would consider for a flex play option but even his value may lesson if Vereen, Danny Woodhead and Stevan Ridley remain active, week to week.
Vereen probably makes the most sense to select in dynasty leagues of the two rookies because of his overall skill set, but you will probably need to wait for him until the 2012 season, before he’s an accountable option.
