Fantasy Football Outlook: Stevan Ridley showed us he has what it takes to be a starting tailback in this league. A strong runner who seems to do a good job of taking what he can get from a defense, and finishing runs off. With the physical tools to be a good pass blocker, it only makes sense that Ridley can fill in the role left behind by BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

Because he plays for the Patriots, you can count on Ridley losing time to Danny Woodhead in passing situations and fellow second year tail back Shane Vereen will get snaps as well.

Value Ridley no higher than a RB3 even as a starter, but if his role should expand into a consistent 17 to 20 carry a week player, he would easily develop into a solid RB2. It really depends on how Vereen develops and if Ridley can control his fumbling issues from last year.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections

With fellow Patriots rookie running back Shane Vareen could land on injured reserve this season (hammy), so look to Stevan Ridley as the No.2 running back on the depth chart, behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Scat-back Danny Woodhead will be in the mix but he figures to make his impact felt in the passing game.

Ridley is having a great camp and is proving to the coaching staff that he is worthy of gaining trust for potential goal line carries in the future. While the Law Firm should be the main option in this ground attack, Ridley threatens to cut into the veterans totals, and could be an interesting waiver wire option if Green-Ellis falls to injury.

June 2011

On draft weekend the Patriots selected a pair of talented running backs in the middle rounds as Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley will be the future one, two punch in New England. Vereen has the better overall skills as Ridley should take over for BenJarvus Green-Ellis in the future as the power runner, in-between the tackles.

At this time, Green-Ellis probably will start out the season with the best fantasy value but Ridley still makes for a cheep selection at dynasty drafts this summer. In the next year or two I would expect the Patriots to part ways with Green-Ellis and possibly Danny Woodhead if both of their rookies prove worthy of extended playing time.

For now, this will be one heck of a talent backfield for the Patriots but a hard situation to trust anyone for fantasy football.
