2011 Fantasy Football Outlook: Just a couple of seasons ago the future looked so bright for Steve Slaton as he was coming off a breakout rookie season and was the clear starter to begin the 2009 season. A slow start, turned into a nightmare as Slaton had fumbling issues and was eventually benched. As time went on it was later determined that his problems were probably cause by a pinched nerve in his neck area that was causing him to lose feeling down his arm.
By December Slaton was done for the season because of the injury and later had surgery to help correct the issue. While Slaton was going to be with the team in 2010, he was clearly not going to be healthy enough to return to a prominent role in the offense. Enter Arian Foster as the second year running back blew everyone away and was the MVP of fantasy football last season.
Now, Slaton is likely to not make the Texans’ roster as 2010 second round pick Ben Tate is back from injury and the team is likely to keep Derrick Ward over Slaton. Hopefully, Slaton can get himself back to full strength and catch on with another team because he’s still young and has shown a skill set in the past to be a playmaker at the NFL level.

Slaton went on to miss the last month of the season and Coach Gary Kubiak later noted that he believed Slaton’s fumbling issues where because of the pinched nerve. For the season Slaton was a bust but looking back it is hard to blame a player when he was playing through that kind of problem.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: This offseason Slaton had a surgery to help with the nerve damage, and he won’t partake in contact drills until camp. For this season Slaton will be the Texans third down back as he won’t be conditioned to take on a full load with his neck issue.
Look for Arian Foster as the top fantasy option on this team and then Ben Tate to be his backup. Slaton will be in the mix, but he won’t be a fantasy factor until late in the season at best. Hopefully, Slaton can bounce back from this health issue and get his career back on track in 2011.
