Toby Gerhart

Toby Gerhart | Minnesota Vikings | RB

Height: 6-1 Weight: 235 | Born: 3/28/1987

2011 Experience: 2nd Season

Fantasy Football Outlook: It was a fun ride for Toby Gerhart in Stanford but his fantasy value couldn’t have fallen on a worse team than the Minnesota Vikings as a second round pick in the 2010 draft. That said, Adrian Peterson was banged up down the stretch last season and Gerhart showed some like as a waiver wire pickup worthy runner.

This should continue to be the case moving forward in future years as Peterson’s hard running ways will catch up to him in the future and Gerhart is capable of lighting the load on the super star. Other than that, Gerhart is a hand cuff to Peterson at best as he has no value to be on a fantasy roster other than for that very reason, unless Peterson finds the trainers’ table.

2010 Preview

Toby Gerhart won’t have any fantasy value unless Adrian Peterson goes down with an injury. If that were to happen Gerhart would probably be in a committee with another runner and would receive the goal line chances.

2010 Fantasy Football Outlook

College / 2010 NFL Draft: Toby Gerhart had a fabulous career at Standford, and it finished with a season that almost won him the Heisman Trophy. For all of Gerhart’s success talk floated around this offseason that NFL teams might try to convert him into a fullback. Gerhart maintained that he wanted nothing to do with a switch.

In the end, the Vikings selected him in the second round of the draft, and he will fill the role left behind by Chester Taylor.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Gerhart was a great move for the Vikings as they were in need of a runner that could be productive if Peterson sustained an injury. Unfortunately, I thought Gerhart could have more fantasy relevance in the NFL than what he does now, but as it stands, he is just a backup for a star runner.

I could see Gerhart as a possible threat to take away some touchdowns from Peterson because of his size and success in that area at Standford. Beyond that it will take an injury from Peterson before Gerhart is worth more than a hand cuff option for fantasy owners.
