Fantasy Football Outlook: While the Texans lost another respectable defensive veteran in safety Glover Quinn, Houston more than made up for it signing Ed Reed and drafting D.J. Swearinger. There are some concerns at linebacker as the Texans are flirting with moving Brooks Reed inside while depending on rookie outside linebackers to possibly pickup the slack.
I would expect Brian Cushing and Darryl Sharpton to start week one, inside but if either player goes down with an injury, things could get interesting.
Still the Texans are going to be one of the better defenses in the NFL and in fantasy leagues with J.J. Watt leading the way.

Summer of 2012: Fantasy Projections
Yeah, I’m a 49ers fan, but even I know the Texans should be the top defense to target at fantasy drafts. This is basically because the Texans are a great young defense led by Wade Philips and they play the Jaguars, Colts and Titans in there division.
The 49ers have a very hard schedule outside the division, and because of the weak AFC South, you should target the Texans to have an even better year on defense.
Additions in the draft of Whitney Mercilus and Jared Crick give this squad added rotational depth, and they won’t skip a beat without Mario Williams.
Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
I’m not sure what to make of the Texans’ defense other than their secondary still has major questions, and they’re switching to a 3-4 defense. Rumors of having Mario Williamsplay linebacker (would be the first time in his life) don’t make me a fan of the transition they will be going through, but they do have some big time talent in their linebacking core.At least Wade Philips is around to teach the 3-4 defense. While Philips doesn’t make for a good Head Coach (too lose with this clubhouse) he has proven to be a solid coordinator. Still there is going to be a learning curve with this defense, and it may cost them the playoffs in the end. For fantasy football, stay away from them as at the draft, but they might be worth a one week flair off the waiver wire against a weak offense.

2010 Preview
The Texans still have a budding line backing core and DE Mario Williams, but they lost top corner Daunta Robinson in free agency. With a pass defense that was already at 18th best in the league, look for the Texans to slide down the list further with a weaker secondary.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: The Texans’ defense made strides behind the continued strong play of defensive end Mario Williams and rookie linebacker Brian Cushing. For the season, this group finished no lower than 18th overall in points allowed, vs the run and vs the pass.
This success made it seem that the Texans’ defense was finally starting to arrive as their young talent was putting it together on the field.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: As soon as this group had positive momentum going into an offseason it was washed away quickly. In free agency the Texans lost their top corner back in Dunta Robinson and after the draft we learned that Cushing would miss the first four games of the season for failing the leagues’ substance abuse policy.
Couple these miss fortunes and the fact that this group wasn’t strong in sacks and turnovers last year, and they aren’t close to a fantasy relevant defense in 2010.
