Fantasy Football Outlook: Foot problems have given Antonio Gates fits in recent years, but it appears to almost be behind him now. If so, Gates is still the third best tight end in the game, after Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski.
The Chargers will be going with two exclusive vertical receivers again on the outside with Malcom Floyd and new addition Robert Meachem. I expect second year receiver Vincent Brown (more of a possession receiver) to get some targets in the middle of the field, at times, but Gates will lead this team in receptions.
This should be a bounce back year for both Philip Rivers and Gates, and trending as a fifth-round selection in recent mocks, I will have no hesitation grabbing him at that point.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
What a crazy season it was for Antonio Gates as he came into the season with a foot injury, and it did cost him six games eventually, but in his time on the field he played better than ever. In only ten games Gates posted 782 yards receiving and ten touchdowns as it seemed like he was primed to post the greatest single season, we’ve every seen from a tight end in fantasy football.
In April, Coach Norv Turner announced that Gates’s foot was fully healed, and he was ready for another season as the Charger top man in the passing game.
While Gates should still be viewed as the best tight end for fantasy, the presence of Vincent Jackson and possibly Steve Smith will probably slow him back down some. Still, this guy is crazy good and will probably be a Hall of Famer by the end of his career.

2010 Preview
While some tight ends come very close to the top of the fantasy ranks, Antonio Gates is still king of the land. Look for Gates to have another strong season for fantasy owners.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Antonio Gates had a slow first half of the season for his standards as he struggled to find the end zone. As the season grew deeper, Gates showed fantasy owners why he’s still the most reliable fantasy tight end as he posted a great finish.
Gates had his biggest yardage season on his career with 1,157 yards and his second highest yard per catch average (14.6) of his career. These numbers just go to show you that Gates is still the best fantasy tight end you can select on draft day.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Gates may or may not reach over 1,000 yards this season, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he tops double digit touchdowns. With LaDainian Tomlinson gone, the Chargers will probably rely on Gates for touchdowns more in the red zone.
Expect another fine season from one the games all time greatest receiving tight ends.
