Fantasy Football Outlook: The Joker tight end in Detroit, Tony Scheffler may not even hold TE2 status at the beginning of the year, but if something should happen to Brandon Pettigrew, he would jump off the waiver wire fast.

Scheffler still has game; it’s just a matter of accumulating enough targets to make him a usable player. If you’re in deep leagues, and you happen to land Pettigrew, holding Scheffler as a backup, isn’t that bad of an idea.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections

If Tony Scheffler was going to be a relevant option for fantasy football with the Lions, it would have been last year as Brandon Pettigrewwas returning from a torn ACL in his rookie season. While I was convinced Pettigrew wouldn’t be a factor (ACL was late in the season) he defied the odds and had a great year for all things considered.Don’t look to Scheffler as an option worth thinking about unless Pettirgrew should suffer another injury and then Scheffler would be an option on the waiver wire.

2010 Preview

Tony Scheffler was the second offensive weapon Brandon Marshall to Dolphins) traded off by the Denver Broncos this April. Look for Scheffler to drastically hurt Brandon Pettigrew’s fantasy stock. Then again, Pettigrew isn’t a great offensive weapon and was coming off an acl injury from last year.

2010 Fantasy Football Outlook

2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Tony Scheffler looked like one of the promising targets in the Broncos offense when the team still had Mike Shanahan and Jay Culter around. Then Josh McDaniels came riding into town and bucked Scheffler off his promising high horse.

For the season Scheffler wasn’t fantasy relevant as he only posted two touchdowns, and he only started nine games overall.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Thankfully, Scheffler got out of a bad situation with the Broncos and moved on to the Lions where he should have a decent season. The Lions are projected to keep Scheffler and fellow tight end Brandon Pettigrew on the field together.

Pettigrew is a much better pass blocker than he is a pure receiver, and he is also coming off a late season torn ACL injury. Look for Scheffler to be moved around in the slot and so on as the Lions will continue to use him as an active target for Matthew Stafford.

Don’t be surprised if Scheffler is worth using every once in awhile as we head deeper into the season. Stafford looks to be progressing nicely as a pro quarterback, and as he develops, he will see more of the field.
