Fantasy Football Outlook: It was fun while it lasted but after a strong performance, week one against the Saints, Visanthe Shiancoe fell off the fantasy radar as Brett Favre struggled. Now, Favre is retired and the Vikings are likely to go with a rookie quarterback in Christian Ponder to begin the season. Even worse for Shiancoe is that the Vikings drafted Notre Dame standout Kyle Rudolphin the draft and that won’t help his playing time.In the end, Shiancoe is the more valuable tight end to own in Minnesota, but he doesn’t project to do much more than last year and that isn’t worthy of a roster spot in leagues up to 14 teams. Maybe if Ponder starts to lock onto his tight end we could see Shiancoe as a waiver wire pickup at some point but that’s about it.

2010 Preview
Visanthe Shiancoe broke out with Brett Favre under center and his fantasy value will depend on if Favre will return. Shiancoe’s highest value for fantasy is held in touchdown heavy leagues as he is a great target down inside the red zone with eleven touchdowns last year.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Coming into the 2009 season Visanthe Shiancoe was a buzz name as he had seven touchdowns in the Vikings’ offense the year before. Upon Brett Favre’s arrival, fantasy owners had to figure that Shiancoe would continue his solid production.
Play well Shiancoe did as he posted eleven touchdowns on the season and was a good fantasy option all year.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Favre is expected to come back this year after ankle surgery so this is a good thing for Shiancoe. The old gunslinger loves to find his big tight end when the team gets inside the red zone.
This is why Shiancoe had so many touchdowns last season and why he’s a top ten fantasy option for tight end this year. Shiancoe won’t be the first tight end off the board, but he can give you decent numbers week to week.
