Fantasy Football Outlook: Down the stretch rookie quarterback Russell Wilson did a better job utilizing his tight ends, which showed in their big comeback against the Falcons, during the playoffs. Miller could be a decent matchup play option, as we’ve seen him play at a TE1 level with the Raiders in his career.

Problem is the Seahawks will continue to use a run first approach on offense, and while the offensive line can hold it’s own now (was a problem for Carlson in the past and Miller as they had to stay in for extra protection) the addition of Percy Harvin, gives Wilson one more option to spread the football with.

Summer of 2012: Fantasy Projections

A pitiful season in his first year with the Seahawks, perhaps Zach Miller was just a product of the Raiders system after all. I still have to believe he can bounce back as nagging injuries, and a horrible offensive line forced him to stay in and block (this was also a problem for John Carlson back in the day), didn’t help him.

The Seahawks seem to have a workable offensive line now, so hopefully we can see Miller go out on pass patterns more often. If he can get his game straight, he could hold TE2 value by mid-season.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections

Raider fans must feel like the Seahawks ripped their guts out and left the on the floor, as they signed away the teams top pass catcher in Zach Miller. I can’t believe Oakland was so nonchalant about signing Miller as they were expected to keep him, and really needed his services to compete in the AFC West.

In the end, the Seahawks have a solid pass catching tight end as it looks like they’ve given up on John Carlson being the pass catching threat of the future. Miller is only 25 years old, so he should be walking into the prime of his career and that is good news for quarterback Tavaris Jackson. Look for Miller to remain as a top ten tight end in PPR leagues as the Seahawks have up graded on the offensive line, and they won’t need their tight end to stay in a block as much.

Zach Miller’s status with the Raiders is a little up in the air as he’s a possible free agent after the lockout but it is expected that he will end up back in Oakland, one way or another. The Raiders would be foolish to let this dependable target get away as Jason Campbell has only Miller to look to as a dependable veteran target.

Assuming Miller does stay with the Raiders he is a respectable candidate for a top ten ranking in standard and PPR leagues as he should continue to put up the numbers he’s had in previous seasons. However, if he’s going to be a top ten producer this year his touchdown numbers need to stay at least around five like he had a season ago and not lower. This will depend on the health of Campbell and that is hard to count on as the big quarterback is bound to find the trainers table a few times, each year.

2010 Preview

Zach Miller is a good tight end just waiting for a quarterback that can move the offense. As soon as the Raiders can find that qb, expect Miller to be a fantasy relevant player.

strong>2009 Fantasy Year In Review: The Raiders have had their problems in the passing game but Zach Miller continues to get better. Last year Miller posted 66 receptions, 805 yards receiving and three touchdowns. While Miller needs to improve on his touchdowns, he is a clear option in PPR and yardage heavy leagues as he should only continue to be productive in those areas.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: This offseason has been positive for Miller’s fantasy football ranking as the team finally released JaMarcus Russell and now have a legit quarterback in Jason Campbell. On top of that good news, the Raiders have the fifth easiest schedule to pass against as they face the NFC West out of division this year.

Put it all together and Miller is a very nice fantasy sleeper for this up coming year, and you can have him at the end of your draft. Again, Miller’s value is best in PPR and heavy yardage leagues as he’s a solid possession pass catch but not a strong touchdown maker.
