Fantasy Football Outlook: Coming off a late season ACL injury, Arrelious Benn had his moments in his second year but he will be in a battle for a starting job with Mike Williams. The Buccaneers are sure to feature heavy running formations (until they fall behind, against high-scoring offenses) and if Benn fails to land a starting job his fantasy value is minimal.
Even though Williams has been knocked for his work ethic (Charlie Campbell article, Jan. 30th) in the past, I’m willing to believe he’s going to win the job, because he is an ideal possession type receiver to go with deep threat Vincent Jackson on the other side.
Keep an eye on this situation, but for now keep Benn off your draft list.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
The Buccaneers selected Arrelious Benn in the second round of the 2010 draft, ahead of fellow rookie Mike Williams. While Williams was solid for the entire season, Benn took some time before he started to flash his abilities but got things going in the second half. Sadly, Been tore his ACL towards the end of December and that is an injury that will hurt his performance until 2012.
Thankfully, Benn is already running around and catching passes from Josh Freeman this past May so his odds of being ready for the start of the season are likely. Look for Williams as the only receiver worth drafting on the Buccaneers, but Benn still has a promising future. At best, Benn is a waiver wire pickup at some point this season.

2010 Preview
Arrelious Benn was the first receiver taken by the Buccaneers this spring but he’s not the top rookie pass catcher on the team. Mike Williams has firmly taken the No.1 receiver spot and is the only relevant option for fantasy at receiver this year.

College/ 2010 NFL Draft: Arrelious Benn had a horrible season in his final year with Illinois as the teams was atrocious and couldn’t help him produce. Much of the year Benn had an ankle injury and that helped contribute to his down numbers.
For all of the on the field problems Benn had last year he was still a high second round selection. The Buccaneers were desperate for receiving help and in the draft, they got two decent young talents in Benn and Mike Williams.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: In OTA’s Benn injured his ankle, and we can only hope this isn’t a recurring trend from his problems last season. At this time, he is fully expected to be the teams starting receiver and probably the No.1 option at receiver if he’s healthy.
The Buccaneers have the easiest schedule to pass against this season so Benn should have opportunities to be a fantasy factor in his rookie season. If Benn is having a solid preseason this year you might want to roll the dice on him in the later rounds of the draft. Don’t forget about Williams though as he will also have a chance to start and has good talent.
