2011 Fantasy Football Outlook: While I’m still not a true believe, it looks like the Bears are serious about making Devin Hester a starter. It’s possible that will the rule changes for kickoffs, that the Bears are determined to keep their big play threat active on the team, and receiver is the next best bet for production.
Third year receiver Johnny Knox has clearly fallen out of favor with Chicago and it will be interesting to see how he responds in the coming weeks. Bascially the young receiver has been a liability at times in his route running, and it seems like Hester can give them better production in that way. If you look to Hester as a draft-able option, only take him at the very end of your draft.

June 2011
With the new rule change in special teams, it’s looking like Devin Hester will receive fewer opportunities to return the football and that could mean an up tick in his usage at wide receiver. While I don’t like Hester as a draft-able option to begin the season, he did prove to be a worthy hold in PPR leagues for a stretch in 2009.
If the Bears should fail to bring in a No.1 receiver in free agency, Hester will continue to be a bigger part of the teams’ passing game, but the Bears need to proved Jay Culter with better protection before Hester is worth thinking about off the waiver wire.
8/2011 Update – With the addition of Roy Williams, Devin Hester will be the receiver affected the most by his presence as the Bears are looking to reduce his role in the passing game. Don’t look to Hester as a viable option to target in deep leagues, nor should be an option that is worthy of pickup off the waiver wire.
2010 Preview
Devin Hester noted that he wouldn’t mind seeing a reduction in playing time at receiver if it helped him return to dominance in the return game. Even if Hester isn’t worth a fantasy roster spot this year he will help quarterback Jay Cutler.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: It was hard for me to believe Devin Hester could actually be a teams No.1 receiver but by preseason he was right their catching passes from Jay Cutler. In the first half of the season it was easy to see that Hester was in fact the teams top target, and he actually had some productive stretches.
Injury hurt Hester down the stretch as other receivers like Devin Aromashodu took advantage of him slowing down.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: At first I thought the Bears were going to use Hester as a slot man and have him focus more on his return game again. As OTA’s moved deeper it is becoming clearer to see that the Bears still envision Hester as one of their starting receivers.
At this time, it looks like Hester is slated to be a clear starter as Mike Martz has “big plans” for this talented player. I’m still very skeptical that Hester can truly deliver for a full season for fantasy owners, but I can’t ignore his opportunity. Players need a chances to get the football to be effective, and it seems like Hester will receive just that again in 2010.
Johnny Knox and Aromashodu are entrenched in a battle this summer for the starting job on the other side of the offense. Earl Bennett is the backup for Hester and that makes Hester the one clear name heading into the summer that will be on the field week one.
Look for Hester as a cheep receiver to select at your draft as many owners may go with Aromashodu as he is getting lots of talk about being a fantasy sleeper this year.
