Earl Bennett | WR

2011 Fantasy Football Outlook: With the addition of Roy Williams, it seems likely that Earl Bennett will move into the slot as Johnny Knox is likely to start opposite Williams. Bennett will be a useful receiver for Jay Cutler, but unless and injury should happen to one of the receivers mentioned above, he’s unlikely to be an option to target on draft day.

June 2011

Unless the Bears find a suitable No.1 receiver via trade or through free agency, they will run out the same three receivers they’ve had for the past few seasons. Those receivers being speedster Johnny Knox, converted receiver Devin Hester and slot receiver Earl Bennett. I don’t mind these three receivers for Jay Culter but they desperately need a true number one to go with this trio of pass catchers.

As it stands, all three figure to have more activity in the offense, thus giving them a chance to find fantasy rosters at some point this season. Look to Knox as the only draft-able option of the three but Bennett still interests me as he failed to drop a pass last season, and the team is looking at ways of getting him more active. Right now Bennett needs to move his average receptions per game to around five or six (3.3 the past two seasons) before he worth using in PPR leagues because he’s not much of a touchdown threat.

2010 Preview

It looks like Earl Bennett should hold onto his starting job in the Bears’ offense this season. Still, with a new offensive coordinator, Johnny Knox could beat him out before the season begins.

2010 Fantasy Football Outlook

2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Earl Bennett was a buzz name for fantasy last summer as he had success in college with Jay Cutler. With an opportunity to start and Cutler coming to the team it only made sense that Bennett could be a fantasy sleeper.

For the season Bennett did have himself a decent second season in the NFL, but it wasn’t enough to make him a fantasy relevant player. For the year Bennett finished with 54 receptions for 717 yards and two touchdowns in his first active season in the passing game.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: I would have thought that Bennett could build on his stats from last year but a knee surgery has dropped him to No.4 on the receiving depth chart. It looks like the Bears are going to use Devin Hester, Johnny Knox and Devin Aromashodu in front of Bennett this season.

Bennett will see the field, but he will be more of a nice depth player for Cutler’s value than a fantasy option to start the season.
