Fantasy Football Outlook: There’s a reason why I hold back on my optimism for most rookie receivers, and that is because they tend to take some time before they’re ready to be a fantasy factor. Sure, some rookies come out every year and make an impact but many times receivers like Golden Tate are expected to do something and fail to accomplish much of anything.
While Tate’s lack of production isn’t an encouraging sign for a second round pick at the NFL draft, it in on ways wrights him off as a player who will bust in his career. In fact, Tate may end up begin more of a bargain pick as those who overvalued him a year ago will probably look at him as just an afterthought this season for fantasy leagues.
My expectations for Tate are to overtake Ben Obomanu for the No.2 receiver job opposite Mike Williams this season. I’m not sure if Tate will win the job to begin the season, but I do believe he can be a waiver wire pickup at some point.
8/2011 Update - So much for Golden Tate attempting to win a starting job as the Seahawks signed Sidney Rice in free agency. That doesn’t mean Tate won’t help as a No.3 option but he is clearly not even worth a speculative selection in deep leagues with the quarterback he has.

2010 Preview

Golden Tate should be the Seahawks No.2 receiver to start the season. If the Seahawks can provide decent pass protection for Matt Hasselbeck, Tate could have a nice rookie season.

2010 Fantasy Football Outlook

College/ 2010 NFL Draft: Anyone that watches college football know sabout Golden Tate and his continued clutch play for the Irish last season. It seemed like Tate would always make great plays to keep his team in the game as he and Jimmy Clausen tried to help the Irish win.

Coming into the draft Tate was one of the more talked about receivers to select and in the second round the Seahawks nabbed him up.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: You can line Tate up all over the field, and he still finds a way to be productive. In the passing game, as a running back or even in special teams he just has a way to read the field and make defenders miss.

This elusiveness will prove to be valuable to the Seahawks as they may make him the No.2 receiver opposite T.J. Houshmandzadeh come week one. Tate may not be selected in different fantasy leagues because the Seahawks haven’t had much success on offense the past few years.

Still, keep an eye on Tate as I believe he will be productive for fantasy owners in his rookie season.
