2011 Fantasy Football Outlook: With Johnny Knox’s unexpected demotion out of the starting lineup looking legit, it’s time to drop him off your draft board as an option to consider on your roster. Knox will likely stay with the Bears, but it appears that his team has more of a cluttered receiving core than ever before. Maybe Knox will win a starting  job back at some point this season, but until then he should remain on waiver wires.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections

June 2011

This is a big season for Johnny Knox as he’s coming into his third year as a wide receiver and will probably be viewed as the Bears No.1 receiver, if they fail to add someone in free agency. While Knox took steps in his second year, he failed to provide more than beating defense over the top with this speed as he averaged 18.8 yards per reception but only totaled 51 catches on the year.

Unless Knox can develop his game to more of a 75 plus reception total, it will be difficult for fantasy owners to look to Knox as a weekly option in starting lineups. Heading into the summer Knox’s ADP value on Mock Draft Central has him listed as the 43rd receiver (103.11 average pick) going in standard redraft leagues. This rankings would make Knox your 4th receiver in a 12 team league and your 5th receiver in a ten team league.

This ranking is fair or a young receiver who has shown flashes of being more but is likely to remain at the same numbers he’s posted in his previous seasons. If Knox can continue to grow, and Jay Cutler can get better pass protection, Knox could be a sleeper in 2011.

8/2011 Update – With the addition of Roy Williams, Knox figures to start on the other side of the field and this could help him as a deep threat. That said, Knox may still go ahead of Williams at some drafts, but you should target Williams as the receiver worth having. The Bears have been desperate for a receiver with Williams skill set and his past experience with Coordinator Mike Martz will play to his advantage.

2010 Preview

Johnny Knox had a good rookie year and has carried that success into the offseason. Now, Knox looks primed to be a starter and Jay Culter’s top target in the passing game. Look for Knox as a great sleeper to help your team all year.

2010 Fantasy Football Outlook

2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Johnny Knox seemed to come out of nowhere as the teams fifth round pick in 2009. Not only was he productive in special teams, but he posted 45 receptions for 527 yards and five receiving touchdowns.

This was an unexpected surprise from a player drafted in the later rounds to contribute this way in his rookie season.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: For all the talk about Devin Aromashodu being a fantasy sleeper this offseason it is Knox that is running with the first team in front of him. Devin Hester looks to be entrenched as the teams other starter so it will be a battle between Knox and Aromashodu all summer.

While Knox was productive last year it would seem more likely that the Bears would use him in the slot and return game. In the end, Coach Mike Martz is going to use all his receivers, but it will be the starters that have fantasy relevance.

If Knox wins the job than he will be worth owning as a late round pick on draft day.
