Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections

Third round pick Leonard Hankerson is big enough, fast enough and gosh darn it, I just like him as one of the rookie receivers who could be in fantasy lineups at some point this season. With Santana Moss headed for free agency the Redskins will have second year man Anthony Armstrong and four year Malcolm Kelly (missed all last year with injury) as Handerson’s main competition.

That basically means if this kid shows any signs of consistent life in the preseason he has a great chance to win a starting job and contribute for fantasy early on. The Redskins don’t project to be a winning team this year so that means they will probably be playing from behind, which means inflated numbers against prevent defenses.

Hankerson has the size and skill to be a great PPR receiver and the speed to make the big plays, that could project this guy as a top fifteen fantasy receiver in the future. Look to Hankerson as a top five receiver to select at rookie dynasty drafts this summer. In standard redraft leagues, Hankerson is worth stashing on your squad if he shows life in the preseason for ten team leagues, and is worth stashing in 12 team leagues right away.

8/2011 Update - The Redskins have added Santana Moss and have added a few veterans to compete with Hankerson for playing time. Hankerson should work his way into the lineup at some point but won’t have much fantasy value this season.
