Fantasy Football Outlook: That’s it, count me out as a believer of Colston as a top twenty receiver going forward as he had microfracture knee surgery this off-season and had the same procedure done on his opposite knee just two years ago. In fact, Colston has had five knee surgeries in his five year career with the Saints. If you look down at the full season numbers for Colston his stats aren’t horrible, but he got off to a really bad start last season and seems to get lost in this offense at times.

It should be surprising that Colston can be inconsistent for a player who is viewed at to be a No.1 type of receiver for fantasy as the Saints’ love to spread the football around. Heading into the summer, Colston’s ADP value on Mock Draft Central is 12th best receiver (33.70 overall) to take in PPR leagues and the 12th best (35.32 overall) in standard leagues.

Those rankings are too high in my mind for a guy with some many knee problems and his troubles with consistency through a full season in recent years. Let another poor sap in your league deal with Colston at that price and go with a player with more upside like Mike Wallace of the Steelers or even Steve Johnson of the Bills.

2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Last season Marques Colston was coming off his first disappointing campaign in his career as a week one injury cost him around half the year. While Colston may have failed, he rebound in 2009 with another productive season as he had over 1,000 yards receiving and nine touchdowns.

In one of the best passing offenses in football, Colston is in good hands with the talent he has around him.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Colston has had at least eight touchdowns and over 1,000 yards in three of the four years he’s played. Outside of injury one has to believe that this talented pass catcher will play up to those standards once again in 2010.

Colston isn’t a speedster that is going to make a tone of big plays down the field, but he is one of Drew Brees’s favorite targets. This makes Colston the top receiving option in New Orleans and a fine selection at your fantasy draft.
