Fantasy Football Outlook: What a breakout year it was for Victor Cruz as his success has likely changed the way teams view the slot position. Cruz will be transitioning to playing on the outside this year, and that’s a significant point to keep in mind because 75% of his receptions for 77% of his yardage came from the slot last season.

However, that doesn’t mean the Giants won’t use Cruz in the slot, as GM Jerry Reese has noted Cruz will lineup inside in three and four receiver sets. Translation for fantasy owners; Cruz will just be on the field more this year, because most of his snaps last year (when Mario Manningham was healthy) came when the team was in three and four receiver sets.

Sure, we should assume Cruz’s production will fall off, but don’t be surprised if it’s not by much. I like rookie Rueben Randle as a future outside player, and he will make some plays as Cruz and Hakeem Nicks will draw top coverage.

For his dynasty prospects, Cruz should benefit from this in the long run because teams will be forced to give Randle respect, and Cruz will have miss-match chances in the slot.

Let’s also not forget that many teams around the league, don’t have a slot defensive back that can hang with Cruz inside so he’s going to beat coverage.

Going as a top ten receiver in most ADP trends this summer, Cruz is a respectable low end WR1 and a terrific WR2 going forward.
