Wes Welker

Wes Welker | New England Patriots | WR

Height: 5-9 Weight: 185 | Born: 5/1/1981

2011 Experience: 8th Year

Fantasy Football Outlook: Last year was going to be a challenge for Wes Welker as he suffered an ACL tear in a week seventeen game against the Texans the year before. With an injury like that, it takes a player until the second year after to return to as close to normal as he was before the injury. While Welker continued to be a factor in the Patriots’ offense, his overall numbers clearly weren’t what he had previous to the injury.

The good news for Welker fans is that he’s feeling great this off-season and should be primed for a return to his normal 100 plus receiving total in his contract season. Who knows if Welker will be back with the Patriots after this year (will be thirty one next May), but he’s going to be a main target in the passing game this year as Tom Brady’s favorite receiver on the field.

Coming into the summer, Welker’s ADP value on Mock Draft Central has him listed as the 23rd receiver (57.81 overall) going in standard leagues and the 19th receiver (46.21 overall) taken in PPR leagues. This puts Welker at a great value for what he can give your team and especially in PPR leagues as he can be had as a late No.2 receiver and should perform as a clear top 12 in the end.

8/2011 Update - The addition of Chad Ochocinco will no doubt help Tom Brady, but look for Deion Branch to be the receiver most effected by the veterans presence and not Welker. No.83 is still Brady’s go to receiver when he’s in trouble or looking for a first down over the middle.

2010 Preview

Wes Welker is off to a good start for the 2010 season and is proving to be a better fantasy option than I thought he would be this offseason. I’m still concerned about Welker holding up all season but for now you should feel good about his odds of help your squad.

2010 Fantasy Football Outlook

2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Wes Welker was having another fabulous season in yardage and receptions as he posted 123 catches in only fourteen games. Sadly, Welker tore his ACL in the final game of the year against the Texans.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Welker didn’t seem like he was going to be a very relevant name for fantasy in 2010 as he had a long road to recover from his surgery on his knee in February. While Welker still has much to prove in his rehab, he is back on the field in June.

This is almost amazing to see as his injury is nothing small and for a player like Welker, he relys on his cutting ability all the time. Putting stress on the knee’s is a constant for a receiver and Welker is one of the hardest working wide outs in all of football. It will be interesting to see when this stud player will be back on the team for 2010.

At this time, Welker is flying up our board as he may have a shot to return with the Patriots in the first month of the season. Don’t expect Welker to be a full strength, but he should be a help to your team and especially if you’re in a PPR league.
